Summer Reading List

Stolen shamelessly from Sean.

1. What are you reading this summer? - "for frying out loud" (fay jacobs), "lost in america" (sherwin nuland), "railroads of pennsylvania" (lorett treese).

2. Is your summer reading material different during the summer then from the rest of the year? - hell no!  I read whatever I want whenever I want!

3. What are your favorite genres? - history, (auto)bio, travel, philly history, knitting, murder mystery, humor, baseball, trains, music.

4. Do you have a favorite author? - lisa scottoline, stephan pastis, bill watterson, jennifer weiner.

5. Do you have a favorite book? - not really; I like reading for the sake of reading and to learn something I don't already know.

6. Where is your favorite place to read? - bed, living room, sunporch.

7. Do you like to reread books? Which one(s)? - "gone with the wind", "you are special", "calvin & hobbes" collections, "pearls before swine" collections

8. Can you read while in motion? - hell no! (headache and puke!)

9. The debate continues: paper vs electronic. - paper ONLY, baybee!

Do you get off on trashy novels? Recommendations? - never read, waste of time.  that's why there's free internet porn!

  1. Just a quickie before I have to rush out to the cinema (No, not THAT one, at least not yet - I'll prob do my piece in the morning, but this has had some very thumbs-down reviews here.)

Can you actually read in bed? That's something I could never get used to. Far too uncomfy, twisting this way and that - and anyway reading before sleeping only makes falling off to sleep even harder, I find. But good for you if you can manage it.

Books - Scottoline, Pastis, Watterson? All unknown names to me, 'fraid.
But re-reading GWTW? - Ah! Now you're talking! At least 5 times so far - and I'm not done!

Sorry, short 'n sweet - but GOTTA GO!
    Byeeeeee for now!

    1. heh heh heh, a "quickie". :)

my bed is comfy and I have a special high backrest pillow that is wonderful. it helps me to relax and fall asleep better than any drug.

I will put weblinks on the author's names so you can do research. scottoline is a philly girl who was a lawyer before she discovered she liked to write murder mysteries better than arguing in a courtroom.

ta! kiss your pussies for me!

  4. I totally miss "Calvin and Hobbes." They were the best.

When our son was about seven he used to read them... until he starting imitating Calvin's behavior. (No joke.) Then we'd say, "Calvin's going on vacation for a while."

    :-)

    1. OMB. interesting. I like comics that make you think: C&H, doonesbury, pearls before swine, peanuts. the rest of them can take a hike (family circus, blondie, etc.).

  5. Hey wait a minute! Blonde??? I did a whole series of sleep disorders lectures on Dagwood! I even corresponded with Dean Young about his characters. Mr. Young in no uncertain terms told me that he could not put Dagwood in a sleep disorders clinic (as I had suggested) because if Dagwood could sleep, then he wouldn't be able to trying to think up new gags for Dagwood!

    1. "blondie" wore itself out years ago, IMHO. same gags week in and week out. same with "family circus", "dennis the menace", "the lockhorns", "andy capp", etc.

I used to like "get fuzzy", but that has become so one-gag-boring I pass it by.

I cried when "calvin and hobbes" retired.

  6. Good evening!

Speaking of comics, are you familiar with "Simon's Cat?"
    Check it out at "www.simonscat.com."

They're really funny, both the books and the animated shorts. You can tell that this guy really understands cats.
