Saturday Night Dance Party!

This is how I am feeling right now.

Dance like no one's watching.

Sing like no one's listening.

"Get Down On It" - and bump-n-grind it good!

Do please send more healing thoughts to our Cajun. :(

You start off 2015 with an offering which, in the light of your previous choices, I see as being 'you' all over - and there's no doubt that it's a goody.
I see that this single was bigger here, getting to #3 in '82, than K's home USA where it just managed #10.

There has been some discussion in the past on mine and other blogs about 'Desert Island Discs', the name referring to a BBC radio programme which has been running for getting towards 70 years now, in which a celebrity or well-known person in any field, has to choose the eight single tracks which s/he has to live with exclusively for, potentially, the remainder of his/her life (having been supposedly marooned on a desert island with nothing else for entertainment). At the end of the programme that person then has to nominate which single track would be their choice if it was to be narrowed down to just one nomination.Their decision really let's us see that person very candidly 'exposed' as to where their tastes lie. I'd hazard a guess that 'Get Down On It' would stand a good chance of being YOUR ultimate choice. Am I close to the mark? - even scoring a bulls-eye? We've got to know you, oh, so well, A.M. - and we love you all the more for it.

I know I'm not alone in thinking often of Cajun, with associated feelings of utter helplessness, There's a residual feeling of discomfort present when writing light-heartedly on other blogs about unrelated matters, though what can one realistically do?
I see there are disparate responses to his last blog, all well-meaning. It would be vain to interfere there in what must be a painful period, at least mentally, for him (that means you, C, if you're reading this) - and of course we wish total comfort and consolation in what's to happen next, whatever that might be.

    1. 8 single tracks...let's see:

      LA woman - the doors
      a hard day's night - the beatles
miss you - the rolling stones
      purple haze - jimi hendrix
      hound dog - elvis presley
up on the roof - james taylor
stand by me - ben e. king
I won't back down - tom petty & the heartbreakers

just one - I won't back down; it's my personal fight song, it was a hit when I was diagnosed with cancer. it got me through the rough times with the illness, then with my divorce.

"associated feelings of utter helplessness" - yep, this is how I feel also. and it bothers me.

    2. What a splendid list, A.M.! I'm most impressed at the way you've entered into the spirit of the thing. That is EXACTLY the kind of list we want to hear about.
The only one of yours I don't know straight off the top of my head is the first one, but once I play The Doors track I'm pretty sure it will come back to me.
Your final choice (only in terms of where it's listed) is a very personal connection of a particular song - and there's always one special one which we will all have as precious to us alone. In this case, as it applies uniquely to yourself you're mentioning of it is all the more valuable in giving us a minute insight into your very soul. Thank you for revealing that. It'll be special for me now too, in associating it only with you.

In my own list, which I did about 4 or 5 years ago I think, I chose 5 classical pieces but I also had to pick at least one Beatles track. I eventually opted for 'Hey Jude' but it could have been one of about 30 others of theirs.
'A Hard Day's night' was actually the first Beatles record which I bought as a single. Before then I honestly just couldn't stand them, but this was the one that made me sit up and realise that there was something special there - and from that moment on I was converted in a very big way.

Thanks for playing along, A.M. Your response makes me wonder if it's time to resurrect this little 'game'. We'll see.

With thoughts, as ever, for dear suffering Cajun, I bid you a lusty "'bye for now".

    3. oooooooh, perhaps I should do a list for "classical music" and another for "jazz/swing/big band music".

    4. Well, the list is supposed to be an ultimate, very personal selection from ALL types of music- to also include spoken word, if wished. Sorry I hadn't made that clear. But we get your drift, A.M., and yours is still a fascinating and revealing selection.
