G'day, W.Q., Never heard of this Yoakum chappie, but must admit I do find these C & W geetar-twanging numbers enormously uplifting, notwithstanding that the lyrics might be about jealousy, assault, murder, suicide and so on. I just don't listen to them.
All tickety-boo here, temps on the slide though still at seasonal norm. And you?
Have a poifect w/e - within your means and capabilities, naturally. Usual greetings, strokes and cuddles as approp to all, See ya later, Byeeeeee!
it's a cold and rainy sunday morning here, king. today is the final day of baseball season in philly; there's always next year. now to hibernate from sport until march.
I always find C&W songs rawther angsty (a nod in spo's direction).
nothing new in this house; cats are taking their morning naps, spouse and I have finished breakfast. I have grocery shopping and laundry and knitting on my agenda today. I lead a dull life (as spo always says).
I'm becoming a phanatic of your Saturday Night Dance Party features. I like this blend of old country and new country with the delightful added element of the squeezebox. Currently I am enjoying Romanian pop music which often includes the accordion.
"phanatic" - I see what you did there! it's the last day of baseball season here; another losing season for us.
romanian pop music - you ARE different, aren't you?
PS - saturday night, 6-7pm, wxpn (http://www.xpn.org) hosts a show by jerry blavat; last night jerry played an all-female show with songs I never heard on top 40. I thought of you; check it out!
I just finished listening to Jerry Blavat's hour long salute to the ladies on WXPN featuring Della Reese, Timi Yuro, Maxine Brown, the Chantels, Etta James, Barbara Lewis, Carla Thomas and La Vern Baker. It was sensational! Thank you for hooking me up with my old buddy The Geator with the Heater, the Boss with the Hot Sauce, and thank you very much for thinking of me! :)
I haven't read it yet, anne marie, but I'm going to! Yessum, you named some of the great ones. Over the years I have featured the Geator, Hy Lit and Joe Niagara in posts on SDMM.
When I was in TV news I interviewed for a producer job at WPVI Channel 6 Action News. I had the chance to meet two of my idols, the two Jimbos, Jim Gardner and Jim O'Brien. As you well know, the latter died tragically while skydiving later that same year. I also met Lisa Thomas-Laury who was just as sweet as could be, humble and modest, too. I see that she just retired. I also saw other Action News personalities going about their business at the station including Marc Howard, Cathy Gandolfo, Dave Roberts, Gary Papa and Tolley - Don Tollefson. The 70s and early 80s were the glory days of Action News - year in and year out the best newscast on television!
To answer your question, yessum, I started out as a TV newscaster and reporter at the station in Lancaster, then moved into news producing at two different stations. I made the switch from news to entertainment and became head of production at a third station which had a music video format similar to MTV and VH1. Over the years I had the opportunity to meet and work with quite a few recording artists, groups, bands and other celebrities. :)
BTW, "yessum" is an expression used in my favorite movie, Ruby in Paradise, starring Ashley Judd. :)
I have absolutely NO PROBLEM with those painted on jeans! Although this song I didn't expect. I'm happy its October finally....my Scorpio birthday will be here soon.
I've always had a slight crush on Dwight Yoakam. I've been to Bakersfield numerous times and it's one of the worst places on earth - - and HOT AS HELL in the summer.
I've known many Scorpios and they're all hot....hotter than Bakersfield...
So, what's this weekend's bread selection for you and RTG? My breadmaker's currently whipping boring old whole wheat .... maybe next weekend I'll be more adventurous ... it will be Canadian Thanksgiving next weekend.
Dwight is like ... oh, who's that other country guy ... the one that was briefly married to Renee Zellwegger ... Kenny Chesney! They both look better with their cowboy hats on.
Nice Jeans! Have a totally random week.
ReplyDeleteFIRST! my weeks are always random, no rhyme or reason.
DeleteI do like a man in a cowboy hat. Have a yee-hawr weekend!
ReplyDeleteJP
does guido ever wear one in bed?
Deleteproblem is, if dwight takes off that hat, he looks horrible!
Whatever happened to Dwight?
ReplyDeleteAnd how did he ever get into those pants?
still performing. perhaps he had his "private secretary" help him into those jeans.

Deletethe last philly dj left standing; hy lit, joe niagara, georgie woods, all gone.

DeleteAll of the above. :) Thanks for your interest, anne marie. You are a great new friend!
DeleteI haven't heard Dwight Yoakam in a very, very long time! Anyone else remember him as the truck driver in the movie Red Rock West?
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend, I'll have a post about mine soon.
I loves to keep my readers intrigued!
DeleteI have absolutely NO PROBLEM with those painted on jeans! Although this song I didn't expect. I'm happy its October finally....my Scorpio birthday will be here soon.
ReplyDeleteI figured you would NOT have a problem with the jeans! :)

DeleteI take a truculent viking has not gotten there yet to rip your oven out of the wall.
ReplyDeletehe DID arrive; I gave him spam and he calmed down immediately!
DeleteSo you're feeling like dancing to cowboy music, Anne Marie? Do you know any cowgirl moves? ;)

the breadmaker is not in use this weekend; RTG still has white poppy seed bread left from last weekend. a happy thanksgiving in advance to you!
Deletekenny is gay and too scared to come out; what a shame.
The song reminds me of the music you hear in Mexican bars except the song is in English. I hope you had a nice weekend. They go by so fast. RJJS
ReplyDeleteI like tex-mex music no matter the language; it's always so happy/party sounding!
Deletefinal weekend of baseball season (boooo), and I was feeling ill on sunday too. weekends should be 5 days long!
If its paint it works:)
ReplyDeleteI get a kick out of Buck Owens.
