  2. Mavis Staples has a voice that slays me! One of my favorites!

It's gonna be a scorcher here in Smallville this weekend ... I wish someone would take me somewhere cool!

  5. G'day, W.Q.,
Don't recollect this number at all, nor the 'artistes'. I see it got to the top of Billboard charts but only reached #30 here in 1972.

Our week of heatwave came to an end coupla days ago. Temps in some parts were the highest for June since 1976 - and 'twas pretty roasting here on the coast too, I can tell you. Now back to 'normal', cool, windy and some wetness, which is a relief for me and the pussies - at least until we start wanting our Summer back again.
No other news of consequence here.

Our Prime Minister has suddenly become a grossly unpopular figure following a sequence of miscalculated blunders. She's now badly in need of someone to hold her hand. Do you have anyone there who can do that for her? ;-)

Any more news at your end? Regarding anyone at all, within your household or outside it? I'm sure that you and RTG will be keeping us informed should there be something significant.

Do have a splendid (remainder of) w/e. Regards to the 'kids' from me and my three little 'uns - as well as to you and the hubby, natch.
    Byeeeeee!

    1. since you don't have air conditioning, it must be hell on earth for you and the boys. :(
I could not breathe without it.

the dump and may are siblings from another mother; I don't trust either of them. BTW, I hear the dump's october visit has been canceled. awww, no ride in the golden carriage! :)

RTG is back to work full time 24 days after pacemaker surgery. he had a bit of angina this morning, but it takes a body/heart 6 weeks to adjust; he is only on week #3. get this - the hospital bill was $97,000; RTG pays only $2500.

we ran errands this morning and had a chinese lunch. now it's nap time for us; the pussy girls are already asleep.

smooches to all 2-foots and 4-foots!

    2. I've never lived anywhere with air-conditioning, W.Q., so I don't know any different. However, some of the offices I worked in did have it - but only some.

The 'official' explanation of no mention of D.T.'s visit in the Queen's speech is that "a date has yet to be agreed". I bet! Unofficially we hear that he's too chicken to face a scene full of protestors wherever he goes as it would reflect badly on his 'image'. Oh, do come. We can guarantee that you'll get the welcome you deserve.

Go to go (to the flix again). Greetings to all - especially to RTG with not having to pay ALL that bill.

    3. interesting! I have always had air conditioning.

we have heard rumours that the security risk for dump in the UK would be too demanding; and the fact that only may wants him to visit.

yeah, $2500 is a small price to pay for good health care. too bad our stoopid guvmint wants to ruin it for we the people.

    4. Right now Mrs May needs someone to hold her hand and there seems to be only one person on earth to do it. Another major blunder on her part and, with the vultures already circling, she'll be gone in a jiffy.

Very curious your healthcare 'system'. Must be an everyday dread for millions of Americans thinking they'll need it but can't afford it. But, of course, it would be 'socialist' to have a National health Service like nearly all the rest of the civilised world now does, and that would never do!

  6. I've heard this song! Strangely enough, my introduction to the Staples Singers was when they did a few songs with country singer Marty Stuart. Yes, once upon a time a lifetime ago I watched The Nashville Network.

We don't have record heat today, but it's coming back tomorrow and Monday.
