Saturday Night #BlackLivesMatter Protest Party! (Part 14)

This is how I am feeling right now.

In memory of
Julian Edward Roosevelt Lewis.

"As people exercise their right to protest all across the country––let the undeniable paths of our progress be a guide going forward: peaceful, sustained protest; strategic, committed organizing; and purposeful, overwhelming participation at the ballot box.” - Barack Obama, August 2020

  1. Scott Joplin takes his 'Maple Leaf Rag' at a fair lick, doesn't he? It's always been (one of) my favourites of his, and I always got great pleasure from playing it on the ol' Joanna. Then I found that what I was playing was a revision transposed down a semitone rather than the original written in what for me is that most difficult of keys to play up to speed in, Ab. But not to be deterred, I accept now that this is the ONLY way to perform it, just as Scott intended.

Have a pleasant w/e - and do try not to let the announcement of the new SCOTUS nominee, whose name and unfortunate reputation can be counted on as I type this, rile you TOO much.

  2. True story. I grew up in tiny town called Lebanon, in the heart of PA Dutch country, and there was a nightclub called Pushniks. And Pushniks was popular for jazz. Among those playing in the Waterfall Room were Lionel Hampton, Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington... in Lebanon of all places.

  3. Happy birthday to all celebrants!!

Listenting to Lionel Hampton's "Midnight Sun" brought me immediately back to walking into my childhood basement (my Dad's man cave). Dad is a music fan and would often play all kinds of genres. Jazz is his all time favorite. He loves sewing and doing the alteration on clothing. Anyway, hearing that song brought back some nostalgia.

  5. So much amazing talent. Scott Joplin was a genius and could he ever move his fingers (and all that went with them). Great music. We got to see Lena Horne's one-woman show on Broadway twice. And I can't ride or see a sign for the A train without singing that song. I even put it on my phone a few years ago, so I could play it while I was riding (ear buds).

  6. Lovely selections, all. I love Ms. Lena. No one sang like her. She was so brave. And Believe in Yourself is one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite musicals (The Wiz). Thanks for sharing, oh, musical mistress of my Saturdays. Kizzes.

"musical mistress of my saturdays" - I like that; has a nice sound to it.

  14. So today I danced my ass off (like no one was watching--and no one but the dog and cats were watching, cause the partner was still at work. It got rid of my headache and it was to the best song "What A Feeling" by Irene Cara.
