This is where I spend 40 hours a week for my daily bread. Yes, there is a mini teddy bear and my Diet Pepsi and my road atlas and my world map and my ever-present tissue box on my desk. Did I ever tell you that geography fascinates me?
My windows to the world are on my left. Unfortunately, the view is not as glamorous as
Jim's. You will see that view in a pic later this week.
Good morning!
ReplyDeleteBoth my son and I are fascinated by maps.
As luck should have it, one of my first software gigs was developing a Windows-based program capable of rendering moving maps. That was a great job.
suh-weet! it's a rainy morning down here. that's ok by me.
DeleteSean R, we have so much in common it's eerie!
DeleteI'm doing some research on the other subject you mentioned the other day.
Peace <3
Jay
jay, you and sean r. may be "brothers from another mother".
Delete:-)
DeleteAnne Marie,
ReplyDeleteI love geography and maps too. In fact, the keyboard I am typing on now is sitting on a map. I also have a big map on the wall. I always did well in geography.
Wherever I work (on a computer) I need a window. Otherwise I shut down. I've been lucky that most places I've worked I've been able to secure a window desk or office. Even now at home. Bill likes to work in the dark basement. Not me, I need LOTS of light.

Retired in Delaware
I too need the light. guess my claustrophobia kicks in big time without windows. I could never do what bill does; I'd go nuts.
DeleteI need the world map to help my co-workers find customers; sometimes we get a quotation request from a country they never heard of, but I have. so I gotta point out where it is; silly to be so ignorant in this day and age.
geography fascinates me too!
ReplyDeleteyou're lucky... and my job I have 2 monitors in front of me.
I actually have 2 separate desktop computers on which to my job. the one pictured is for e-mail/quickbooks/word/excel apps. the other computer (across the room) holds my shipping software (UPS, TNT) and CD burner and credit card apps.
Deleteyeah, the life of the office manager (that's me). :-b
I love geography and have always been good at it. I am going to hang a map of the world on my wall. Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteI seem to have attracted the geography lovers to the blog today; cool!
DeleteI love maps and geography. I have atlases and maps, and have kept every map that has come in National Geographic Magazine for years. I have collections of topos from everywhere I've ever been, it seems, including maps of England. They are lots of fun, and you will never get lost if you always know where you are!
ReplyDeletePeace <3
Jay
it amazes me that someone at work can mention a country, all you see are blank stares from the co-workers, then they turn to me and beg me to show them where it is. they can't even place the continent! WTF? reading pays off in so many ways!
DeleteI too love maps and geography! I have a world map in my living room; my daily planner has maps of each area of the world; I am fortunate enough to have a geology professor and a geography professor in my office suite at the college, who eagerly answer all my questions. Our Dean has a globe I covet: each country is an inlay of a semi-prcious stone, mineral, or gem. It's fabulous!
ReplyDeletedamn, girl, that globe sounds fascinating! c ya next saturday!
DeleteI'm joining the map club, sweetie! I've always loved maps from an early age in elementary school and took every geography course possible in high school.
ReplyDeleteOn road trips,I still prefer a paper map as a GPS unit doesn't always give me the "big picture" when travelling.
I agree with you, Buddy Bear. I use GPS for local stuff, and even for longer trips as long as I know where I'm going. I LOVE a map for showing me the big picture, the layout, the way things come together...I can't count the times I've pulled over and pulled out the atlas or state map (I hit all the rest area welcome centers I pass to make sure I've got the latest from each state). No better way to go!
DeleteJay
I don't own a GPS, so it's a paper map/road atlas for me! I get mine free from AAA.
DeleteI have heard too many horror stories about GPS failure (taking you 50 miles out of your way, for example). bullshit!
I, too, love geography, especially Google Earth!
ReplyDeleteBut have you noticed how all the countries have changed names and borders since I was in school. Eastern Europe and Africa are so very different now.
David
oh yeah, constant change. my world map on the wall was printed within the past 3 years; still current for now.
