Brain Puke XVII

Lots o shit swirling around in the toilet bowl that is my brain. Let's capture some of it here.

Time for some pussy pix for all you pussy (heh heh heh) lovers out there.

Meredith and Nyla checking out the birdies.  The yellow lid in the background is part of my large wheeled recycle can (goes out every Tuesday).  I usually fill that can every week.

Nyla caught in a "who me?" moment with a mousie toy.

Meredith passed out in the sun.  The bird feeder is right outside; keeps them entertained for hours!

This is a lemon loaf cake I made on Wednesday.  I made 2: one for us and one for spouse's potluck office party.

What's NOT in it?  High fructose corn syrup, artificial anything, preservatives, additives.  You can pronounce all the ingredients and I made this cake for about $1.  BOO YAH!

What's in it?

2 cups all purpose flour
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 stick butter (melted)
1/3 cup milk
1 tablespoon lemon extract
  1. preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. dump all the ingredients into a bowl and mix well.
  3. spray a 9 x 5 loaf pan with non-stick cooking spray; pour batter into pan.
  4. bake for 55-60 minutes until a tester comes out clean. your oven, YMMV.
********************

while the cake is baking, mix 1/4 cup lemon juice and 1/3 cup sugar together. heat on stove 10 minutes, stirring constantly.

as soon as the cake is removed from the oven, pour this hot liquid on top. hear the cake sizzle!  watch it soak up the sticky liquid!

keep cake in pan for 10 minutes, then remove from pan to cool completely on rack.

A little something I am creating for next year's blogger-rama-lama-ding-dong.  I bought the yarn in Boston back in 2011 when I went to visit my boyfriend Dave and his husband Mark.

This is Dave; ain't he just the cutest thing?!?  :)

6/21 marked the 24th year since my cancer surgery.  Blobby and I are lucky to have survived; Bob's sister and Sean's mom are still fighting.  Send them both good karma/vibrations, please; cancer sucks major ass. :(

JayInVA mentioned raisin bread in the comments of my last post, so yesterday I made malted raisin bread.  Here it is, hot outta da breadmaker:

What's in it?  Water, dry milk powder, salt, molasses, olive oil, bread flour, malted milk powder, yeast, raisins.

What's NOT in it?  Butter, eggs, high fructose corn syrup, artificial anything, preservatives, additives.  You can pronounce all the ingredients and I made this bread for about $2.  BOO YAH!

This is the wood (heh heh heh, I said "wood") bread slicer I mentioned last time.  Put the bread in there and run the electric knife thru the slots.  You get a slice like this:

A light schmear of butter on hot bread - damn that's good!  Next up: potato cheese bread.

Where do I get some of my bread ideas?  Right here!

    1. dave and mark have been married for 12 years. dave is a knitter/crocheter/quilter/leatherworker/photographer/chef (his hobbies).

he is a kitty daddy (2 cats). he is a born and bred bostonian and damn proud of it.

  2. Anne Marie,

When I saw you did a "pussy" posting, I almost beat a path to the nearest exit but then I realize your were referring to a "kitty" posting. Interesting names for your cats. My good friend Larry, who I talk to frequently on FaceTime has about a dozen cats, several of which are usually crawling across his keyboard and wagging their tails in front of the FaceTime camera as I talk to him. Larry's last name is "Meredith." My other friend who I talk too less occasionally on FaceTime is Bill B. His cat's name is....yes...."Nyla." Small world!

  3. Now you just KNOW that I can't ever resist pussy pictures, A.M.
The only time mine will sit or lie in close proximity to each other like this is when there's a patch of sunlight which they both want to claim.
To echo Ron above, how did you get to your pussies' names? But unlike him, I've never heard of 'Nyla'. Is that short for something else? Not that they could care, I'm sure.

Had a new breakfast visitor this morning - so FIVE of them I had to feed. This was little Toffee, who came through the window bold as brass, (missed the opp to take a pic!) whom I saw a few days ago on next-door's window sill, pleading loudly to be let in. I've seen him/her before but never knew it belonged to the neighbour, a youngish chap who seems to be always half-stoned on booze (or something else?) - and, by all accounts a bit of a 'Jack-the-lad' judging from the number of young ladies (I use the term advisedly) going in and out.
I do hope he's caring well for Toffee. Don't want yet more pussy-worries.

I skipped your blurb about food and recipes - though the photos have got my salivary juices flowing.
'Potato cheese bread' sounds like made-in-heaven stuff, though it's not going to be made by me. (Frying an egg takes almost more than my culinary skills can muster.)

And I do indeed send positive vibes to Bob's sister and Sean's mum. The 'Big C' (as, of course, you yourself know), is damn serious stuff - and if any little thing can help, then it's worth it.
I'm amazed and grateful that it has not, in any of its terrible forms, visited any of my family, deceased or still surviving. (I only hope that in saying so it's not tempting fate by my drawing attention to it!) But one cannot help but feel for those who are battling it right now. So the very bestest of wishes to these two ladies.

    1. good morning (or afternoon in your case). see my comment to ron about my cat names. my 3 deceased cat's names were sydney, kelly, and steven.

I am not much for getting creative in the kitchen, but I DO like to bake; it's a very satisfying hobby. watching ingredients turn into something good to eat is SCIENCE for this dummy.

    2. I'm trying to convince Carlos--who eats bread literally by the loaf--it'd be a good thing.
      He remains unconvinced!

      PS Good cake! Yum!

    3. carlos doesn't know what he is missing. he can bake his own bread any time he wants. send him to me; I'll "str8ten" him out on the merits of a bread machine!

glad you liked my cake recipe!

  9. The wood slicer is intriguing. Someone doesn't like bread, and I shouldn't eat any but oh it is still the best thing to consume !

    1. I forget where we bought the wood slicer. todd had a plastic slicer, which he promptly broke in two. I figured he couldn't snap wood (heh heh heh, I said "wood"); if he does, he is stronger than he looks!

a simple pleasure is fresh bread and real butter (no rubbish)! :)
