I didn't know this one, though feel I ought to have done. Such a pleasant surprise to hear a singer managing to hold long clear notes without those maddening warbles and tics that pass for 'style' these days, something which drives me up the wall.
Btw: Wern't there rumours (a couple of years ago, I think) about Prince becoming one of those 'born-again' horrors? If so I hope it was only a passing phase - especially since I always found him much sexier than the sexLESS, though formidably talented, late M.J.
I 1000% agree with your first paragraph!!!!! MJ had those and it drove me nuts; so did whitney houston; so does mariah carey. do it correctly without the nonsense flourishes.
spouse says you are correct about the "born again" crap; I have no idea what his current status is.
Ms Carey, above everyone else, has me reaching to turn the damn thing off. How the hell she's become the highest- earning female singer in entire world history gets me despairing for mankind! Now if someone's going to come along and jump to her defence I'm not listening - especially to HER!
Surprised by Raybeard's comment about La Carey. Just think of it as post-modern coloratura. Actually I agree about Mariah. I have never been a fan of the 'wail & emote' school of popular singing.
Never a huge fan of 'His Purpleness' but always loved this song. Actually I liked several of his songs before "Purple Rain". Then he changed his name to a tramp stamp I lost track of him.
Off the wall question but is anyone else having a problem with this link? When I click on it the music that plays is not Prince. It's Plain White T's "Hey There Delilah".
I right-clicked to copy the url and opened it in a new window...same thing
I left the desktop and pulled it up on Spo's laptop...same thing
The video image is Prince but the music is not. WEIRD!!

DeleteI've been over her for quite some time. at 42 she wants to look 16 - uh, NO! if I never hear her screech again I'll be happy.
DeleteSurprised by Raybeard's comment about La Carey. Just think of it as post-modern coloratura. Actually I agree about Mariah. I have never been a fan of the 'wail & emote' school of popular singing.
Deleteme neither; tone it down a bit, no need for screeching.
DeleteAnother excellent choice! My favorite line, "You don't have to watch Dynasty to have an attitude."
ReplyDeletePrince is too much of a man whore to be gay. I've always thought he was dirty sexy. You just know he would be a freak in the sack.
One more thing - Pretty Woman, Julia Roberts caught singing Kiss in the tub. Classic!!!
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!!
MAC
"You just know he would be a freak in the sack." - agree 1000%! smooches!
DeleteI vote both.
ReplyDeleteBOTH?!? so he's bi? :-0
DeletePrince? He's one of those types neither side wants to claim, like the nerdy boy who is picked last for baseball teams.
ReplyDeleteOH SNAP! ;-)
