Big Boy tomatoes a-growin'
Cherry tomatoes too
The peppers have flower buds (no actual peppers have been spotted yet)
The pincusion plant is blooming
Nyla is keeping her eyes on mommy (she's inside the cool house); I'm the idiot outside in the heat (and reflected in the window)
Gigi is ready to attack a bug on the window screen (outside)
WTF is THAT in MY window seat?
Since one of my boyfriends asked (and I forget which one, sorry), I have 12 of these bags that I take on shopping trips; after 30+ years, I must have declined thousands of plastic/paper bags. Today's grocery trip used 6 bags.
www.ecobags.com to purchase some for yourself!
A winter scarf I am making for myself; can you believe I DON'T have one?
The scarf is now 24 inches long; halfway done!
And I should have enough yarn left over to make a matching hat.
The kids' high school colors! Garden looks wonderful. We have peppers but the tomato plant had a disaster. Is all Tar's fault...
ReplyDeletemine were blue and gold, but I was in a green mood at the time I selected the yarn.
Deletewhat did tar do to the tomato plant?
Tomatters! How I love fresh home grown tomatters!
ReplyDeleteMine haven't started blooming yet, but here that does not matter as I will be harvesting until Christmas.....as long as I don't have any disasters.
ah, the beauty of living in sunny southern california! a much longer growing season than philly.
DeleteYour to be commended for the grocery bag tootes! I too decline them. I use to recycle bags or market basket. nyla is thinking just that too I believe!!!! I see some nice tomato sauce and maybe some tomato bread???
ReplyDeletespouse makes his own salsa and stewed tomatoes at the end of harvest season. our neighbors share in the bounty of our harvest. tomato bread...hmmm, must google that...
DeleteThe farmers almanac says it's going to be a winter worse then last year .... The scarf might need to become a sweater
ReplyDeleteUGH! lucky for me I DO have a sweater in progress also! I work on it during my lunch hour; all I need to knit are the sleeves!
DeleteOOOH... I love the pin cushion plant... I so need to add it to my garden.
ReplyDeletethe former owners of my home planted it; it's now a monster! and the bees like the flowers.
DeleteHello and smooches to you Anne Marie, Sorry I've been away sooooo long. Life here in red state fly over country got me down. Not to worry have good family and friends. Anyway I'm liking the garden pics. I don't have time to garden but my Dad does. I get fresh veggies from him. Tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans, and radishes. And my what cute kittehs you have. Are they still hissing at one another? When I go to the grocery store, I will use the plastic bags. But I recycle them I can use them for waste can bag at home or a work lunch sack. Failing that, were I work has a plastics, paper and cardboard recycle. Sorry for the long comment! Have a good week and tell spouse Randy in NEB says hello.
ReplyDeletemy neighbors don't have time to garden, so they share the bounty. so does my BIL/SIL/MIL.
DeleteI am glad you like my pussies (tee hee)! yes, there is still some hissing going on.
at least you recycle; many people don't even do that. I can't shake a good habit begun so long ago.
I'm envious of gardens. All I can grow here in West Texas are weeds. With all this summer heat it's hard to imagine that you'll be needing that beautiful winter scarf in a few months.
ReplyDeleteyes, I saw the weeds in your last post.
Deleteand I cannot wait until winter is upon us to knit my scarf; that's when I will need it the most!
I too am envious of the gardens, particularly the toms.
ReplyDeletespouse is a good gardener.
DeleteThe veggies look great! I'm sure your peppers will make an appearance soon. Mine don't seem to be doing at all well this year.
ReplyDeletewhat's up with your peppers; it's been too cool and rainy, right?
DeleteVeg + pussies, two of my very favourite topics when illustrated.
ReplyDeleteI'm another who hasn't used a carrier bag for something like 35 years, and have to admit that it makes my blood boil every time I go to a supermarket and see those before me at the check-out using sometimes half a dozen such bags, or even more. And they MUST be doing this every single time they go shopping! Christ on a pogo stick! Don't they have ANY consideration for future generations? So many of them have their kids with them even as they do this very thing. Fine example! 'Fraid I don't ever say anything (I dare not!) but hold it all inside, doing no good at all for my BP. (Now just writing about this I've gone and raised my own stress level - and only one hour after returning from the doctor who was pleased at my lowered BP reading! Oh dear! I'd better go and stroke a pussy.)
ooooooh, stroke a pussy! (tee hee)
Deletesome of my cloth bags are so old they have been mended, or had new handles sewed on. but it sure beats the alternative. I would LOVE to see the plastic bags PERMANENTLY banned!
There are plans here, starting next year I think, to charge a few pence for each plastic bag used. Should have been done yonks ago. In the several countries where it already operates it seems to have cut their use dramatically. But I'm with you - just BAN them!
DeleteI would keep the paper ones because they DO decompose; but yeah, the plastic ones have GOT TO GO NOW!
DeleteThey are making decomposable carrier bags now - as I'm sure they've also got in America - though only available in a few places up to now.. It's all very well, though it'll give people license to be lazy and thoughtless - and it doesn't help the literally hundreds of BILLIONS already in landfill sites that are going to take (some say) around 400 years, or even longer, to decay. No, the best solution is to outlaw them all (and shoot those who continue using them)..
DeleteI'd rather knock off the person that created these menace bags!
DeleteA few thoughts ...
ReplyDeleteLove the gardening.
Get out of the heat!
Nyla is adorbs.
What's a pincushion plant--I'm too lazy to Google.
I, too, cannot think of the last time I needed a store grocery bag. Good on us!
I love Gigi's markings.
Great scarf, woman!
thank you, sweetie! the pincushion plant was here when we bought the house.
DeleteMy tomato plants are struggling.
ReplyDeleteawwwwww; no rain out your way, or too damn hot?
DeleteLove the garden. I wonder if someone ELSE planted things in my yard if they would grow?
ReplyDeletePeace <3
Jay
perhaps. do you know a farmer-type person that could help you? or at least someone with a green thumb?
DeleteFun shots. Those tomatoes look yummy, can almost smell them. I've been uising recycleable grocery bags since Super Giant introduced them here 10 years ago - they even credit your bill with 5 cents for each bag used. I use a lot of bags since I can carry anything to heavy.
ReplyDeleteLove the scarf, can't wait to see the hat. Model, please!
when we lived in VA, I shopped at super g and shopper's food warehouse. still using some of those same canvas bags now as then.
Deletebut no money back at aldi and weis (where I shop now). doesn't matter, I still ain't using the plastic ones! :)
model? honey, I'd break the computer! ;-)
Nice tomatoes. I keep canvas shopping bags in the car all the time, I HATE plastic shopping bags with a passion.
ReplyDeletewhy thank you, penguin! oh...wait a minute...you are talking about the GARDEN tomatoes, not my PERSONAL tomatoes. :(
Deletethe plastic bags never seem to hold as much as my canvas bags, they split apart without notice, the handles break too easily, etc.
you should see some of my old bags (and not the ones under my eyes either)! :)
